In nature, a specific function is often provided by a combination of surface roughness and chemical composition.
The Fréchet Group has initiated a new program that explores the use of vertically aligned nanotubes as a coating material. We seek to develop responsive materials that exploit the intrinsic properties of the nanotube as a triggering mechanism.
In addition to controllable roughness on the micro- and nanoscale:
- Thermal conductivity
- Electrical conductivity
- IR heaters (Marangoni effect)
- Can Chemically modify via UV Patterning
We developed a simple UV-patterning method that allows the forest surface properties to be modified in a spatially controlled manner
